How prison burpees imitate life

Burpees, it’s not how many times you fall, it’s how many times you get back up.

I love this saying and the meaning of it. In life, you will stumble and fall, many many times, but you get back up and keep going. This is the common theme of life that we all share and I have the preemptive strike solution for those buzzkill moments, and it’s called a proper prison burpee routine. Nothing imitates falling and getting back up better than this exercise. Master those and stumbling blocks in life will be overcome and eaten up like a piece of cake.

Prison Burpees

Burpees done by jail inmates are done a lil differently than the normal ones that you might know from a fitness class. The difference is in the push-ups you will do while down on the ground and when back up in a standing position you run in place instead of doing the hop and going straight back down. Regular burpees are pure cardio while prison burpees go for strength and endurance.

The reason why I prefer prison burpees is because it’s a perfect workout for your confidence. Prison burpees imitate life and its never-ending ups and downs better. life is a marathon, sometimes you have good streaks with fewer falls and sometimes it’s when it rains it pours. And that is exactly how this prison workout routine imitates life.

How to do ’em

Very simple, run in place at whatever pace is comfortable to you. When you’re ready, go down into the push-up position, do as many push-ups as you want to, and come back up. Run in place till ready again, and go back down and do the push-ups, and back up and repeat. The number or style of push-ups is totally up to you, it doesn’t matter if it’s just 1 clean push-up or some kind of crazy combination of a variety of push-ups. The important thing is that you are persistent with that routine. I’ve done 500 burpees once with 2 push-ups at a time, took me almost 2 hours to do the 1000 push-ups.

This repetition of falling and getting back up will strengthen your willpower to the fullest and problems that come your way are resolved with more calm and ease.

To get the proper form, I suggest checking out some YouTube videos on prison burpees and picking the form that is right for you.
